Snow Wave –
Thredbo Backcountry, 2016 At first glance it looks like a perfect ocean barrel, but this wave was sculpted entirely from snow.
I stumbled across this while splitboarding through the Thredbo backcountry in 2016. Wind, snow and freezing alpine conditions had carved the snowpack into a flawless curling wave—a reminder that nature creates its own masterpieces when nobody’s watching. It’s one of the rarest things I’ve ever found in the mountains.
A frozen wave, standing still under a deep alpine sky, where surfing and snowboarding seem to meet for just a moment.
A split second in nature’s timeline, captured before the next storm erased it forever.
